Violinist Joins Bud Shultz’s “You Can’t Beat Experience” Jazz Band for a Concert

GODFREY — Violin virtuoso Polly Launay will join Bud Shultz and the You Can’t Beat Experience Jazz Band on October 2 at the Benjamin Godfrey Memorial Chapel for a free public concert.

The show starts at 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 2 at the Chapel, 5800 Godfrey Road, Godfrey.

“I met Bud about 12 years ago,” Launay said. “Some of our mutual friends took me to a jazz jam in Godfrey. That’s when Bud and I met, and we’ve been playing music together ever since.”

Launay, from Bluford, near Mount Vernon, plays, writes and records everything from techno, electronic, pop, hip hop, jazz, blues, bluegrass and classical.

“I love all styles of music,” she said. “I never put myself in a box with what I could do with my violin. So I diversified my activities and learned to create all the music that I love. If a singer can make that kind of music, then a violin can too.”

You Can’t Beat Experience Jazz Band features Shultz on clarinet (who also plays saxophone), with Bob Picker on piano; Bob Stout, bass; Don James, trumpet; Peter Hussey, drums.

The concert is sponsored by the Lewis and Clark Community College Music Department.
