The jazz band from Christian County High School performed for the community Tuesday night at the Alhambra Theater before putting on another high-profile performance on Thursday.
The group has been selected to attend the 2022 Kentucky Music Educators Association Conference at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville and will do so tomorrow.
CCHS Groups Director Anthony Darnall said Tuesday night’s performance in Hopkinsville was a celebration of hard work by students.
The community show will feature two guest soloists: Murray State Director of Jazz Studies, Dr. Todd Hill, and Bethel University Groups Director, Dr. Derek Jones.
At the Louisville conference, the jazz band will be joined by world-renowned trombone soloist, Harry Watters.
There are about 30 student musicians in the band in total, and two seniors have been in the jazz band for four years. These students are Aaron Cushenberry and Levi Mitchell.
The Christian County High School Jazz Band is sponsored by Planters Bank, Music Central, XO Brass, Sinking Fork Christian Church, and Michael and Crystal Pettit.
