The Algarve Jazz Orchestra will give its first concert of the year at the Carlos do Carmo Municipal Auditorium in Lagoa on Saturday February 19 at 7 p.m.

Portuguese harmonica player Gonçalo Sousa and Brazilian singer Luanda Cozetti will team up to celebrate what would be the 100th birthday of Toots Thielemans, one of the world’s most famous harmonica players.

“Toots has had a long career, with many opportunities and collaborations. The golden years of Bossa Nova were beginning and Toots, like many jazz musicians, was keen to leave his own mark on Bossa Nova,” the orchestra said in a press release.

Tickets cost €8 and can be purchased online at www.ticketline.sapo.pt or at Fnac, Worten and at the Auditorium and Balcão Único de Lagoa ticket offices. A 20% discount is available for Lagoa Cultural Passport, Social Card and Rota do Petisco 2021 Passport holders.

The concert series will continue on Saturday February 26 with a live performance at the Tempo Theater in Portimão, where Luanda Cozetti will take the stage alongside Cuban percussionist Osvaldo Pegudo to celebrate music from South America to the Caribbean.

The concert will start at 8:30 p.m., with tickets at €5. They can be purchased online at www.bol.pt.
