February 22, 2022 (All day)
It’s “four times big band jazz” when the Mile High Jazz Band and three young jazz bands perform the 18th Annual Jazz Extravaganza Concert, Tuesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m., at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, Carson City.
The Extravaganza is sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band Association as a benefit for youth jazz programs.
This year, the Mile High Jazz Band performs with the Carson High School Jazz Band led by Nick Jacques, the Carson Middle School Jazz Band led by Stephanie Van Orman and, for the first time this year, the Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra led by Vern Scarborough.
Carson High Band Manager Nick Jacques said, “Tickets are only $10 for a fun night of swing music, with all proceeds going directly to our performing groups! Children under 18 are free, so invite siblings, nieces, nephews and friends! » Tickets can be purchased in advance at MileHighJazz.com or at the door.
This year’s Extravaganza will feature the Big Four, singer Jakki Ford and an intergenerational combo. “We like to play with young jazz bands,” said David Bugli, leader and pianist of the Mile High Jazz Band. “After a year-long hiatus due to the pandemic, we are thrilled to bring back the annual event. The student ensembles are awesome and deserve the support of the community.”
The Mile High Jazz Band Association is supported in part by a grant from the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. For more information, call Mile High Jazz Band at 775-883-4154 or visit MileHighJazz.com.
