Mile High Jazz Band presents “Big Band in the Black Box”

After five months of outdoor dinner shows at Living the Good Life, the Mile High Jazz Band presents their October performance indoors. They will perform “Big Band in the Black Box” on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Maizie Harris Jesse Black Box Theater at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St., Carson City. Customers can enter through the entrance to the Craftsmen’s Store.

Tickets cost $ 10 per person and seats are limited. Tickets can be purchased online at milehighjazz.com or can be reserved by calling 775-883-4154. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Doors open at 7:10 p.m. The public is required to wear masks, in accordance with applicable city and state COVID regulations.

The performance will feature favorite big band jazz tunes and vocal styles of Jakki Ford. Pianist and conductor David Bugli said, “The band hopes to wow you with a new repertoire, as well as a number of old favorites.” Trumpeter Bill Melendres will be featured on “A Night in Tunisia” by Dizzy Gillespie and “Round Midnight” by Thelonious Monk. Other solos feature the talents of saxophonists Rich Davis, Jake Xie and Chris Guerra; trombonists Joe Cadena and Mario Ibanez; and trumpeter Karl Rinder. Jakki Ford will perform “That Old Black Magic”, an upbeat version of “It Was a Very Good Year” and other vocal classics.

Mile High Jazz Band is supported in part by a grant from the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Governor’s Office of Economic Development provided additional support through its Nevada Pandemic Emergency Technical Support (PETS) grant for 2021.
