With the arrival of spring — and family and friends gathering for Memorial Day weekend — the Meyersdale-area high school jazz band has planned a special event to stomp their feet and lift spirits. .

“Music in the Park!” The Red Raider Jazz Band” will offer an afternoon of music and ice cream at the belvedere in the heart of the Cité de l’Érable on Sunday at 2 p.m. Katie Howard, MAHS Groups Director, said the event is free and open to the public. Ice cream is to be available on a donation basis, and those attending are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.

The Meyersdale Area High School Jazz Band showcases the talent of 30 students who have dedicated countless hours to their music, attending additional practices and rehearsals throughout the school year.

The band members plan to play a variety of tracks, ranging from Louis Armstrong’s “Struttin with Some Barbecue” to “Feelin’ Good.” The students also plan to perform their own favorite, “Crazy Train.”

“We are thrilled to offer this community outreach and hope it adds to the Memorial Day weekend festivities for everyone,” Howard said. “Our students work so hard throughout the year and haven’t been able to do much for the community due to the pandemic.

“We are happy to be able to bring music and ice cream to the heart of the city and hope to see you all there.”
