High School Jazz Band recreates tank top

cowboy bebop became such a legendary anime not just because of the story beats and characterization involving Spike and the other members of the Bebop, but because of Yoko Kanno’s score who was able to create a franchise that remains legendary. With the opening theme, Tank!, still considered one of the greatest anime opening themes of all time, it’s no surprise that a high school jazz band is enjoying the opportunity to recreate the classical score.
Live adaptation of cowboy bebop was a controversial series, with anime fans torn over whether it could be a worthy recreation of the Bebop crew. While the show’s first season ended on a cliffhanger with the Bebop bounty hunters parting ways after the fight against Vicious and taking the opportunity to introduce Ed in his final moments, it looks like we’ll never see resolving the storylines of the first season as Netflix announced the cancellation of the adaptation shortly after the series premiered. Despite this, Netflix is still working on live-action anime adaptations, including the likes of One Piece, Avatar the Last Airbender, Gundam and Yu Yu Hakusho to name a few.
Reddi user Juntingunit shared this Tank performance! of the South Anchorage High High School Jazz Band proving how much the theme song of cowboy bebop resonated not only in the realm of anime, but in the world of pop culture in general around the world:
Tank (“Cowboy Bebop” opening theme), Yoko Kanno. South Anchorage High School Jazz Band 04/28/2022 from anime
Despite the return of Yoko Kanno at the head of the musical score of Cowboy Bebop’s live-action series, that unfortunately wasn’t enough to save the show from cancellation. While Kanno brought some old favorites to Netflix’s take on the world of Bebop, the composer also took the opportunity to weave in some new tunes for the bounty hunter cast.
What do you think of this performance of Tank by Yoko Kanno!? What other anime themes do you think can withstand the legendary theme of cowboy bebop? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly on Twitter @EVComedy to talk all things comics, anime, and the world of Bebop.
