Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra to perform in free concert

Essex Youth Jazz Sax players look forward to performing live again

Submitted by Essex Music Services

Having been unable to perform live since March last year, the Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra are delighted to participate in a free concert tomorrow (Saturday 18th December) at New Rickstones Academy, Conrad Road, Witham, Essex.

Martin Hathaway, the resident director, and all the young musicians are eager to bring new music to the people of Essex for free.

The Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra enables advanced musicians to develop jazz knowledge and improvisation skills by playing a wide range of genres, from big band standards to contemporary and modern composers.

Prior to Covid-19, the orchestra had performed in many different venues across Essex, including studios, jazz clubs and churches.

Beverley Heard, Essex Music Service Ensemble Manager, said: “I am overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of young musicians to start playing together again after such a long hiatus. We have had a record number of auditions for our jazz program this year and real emerging talent will be heard at this concert. “

Performance will be subject to Covid-19 security protocols.
