PETOSKEY — The Crooked Tree Arts Center kicks off its 2022 Performing Arts Series today — Saturday, Jan. 8 — with a special in-person performance and concert featuring Michigan’s own jazz ensemble, Third Coast Swing.

Third Coast Swing is heavily influenced by the music of the late Belgian and French guitarist Django Reinhardt and his band The Hot Club of Paris. The jazz ensemble takes inspiration from the band and uses it to shape its own styles of gypsy swing, bolero, jazz and more.

“Even though they are a regional band, they have never played at the arts center before and we are delighted to have them back for a great evening concert,” said Andi Symonds, events coordinator for the center. Arts. “They’re guaranteed to get you dancing in your seat or even out of your seat.”

The Ludington-based ensemble will travel to northern Michigan after a series of shows in their hometown on Thursday, move to Grand Rapids on Friday and wrap up their weekend at the arts center on Saturday night.

Third Coast Swing will also be accompanied by two other musicians for their next concert with Ella Jarvis on vocals and Eric McIntyre on several instruments.

“It really should be an amazing jazz gig and we’re thrilled to welcome the band back and have live music in general again,” Symonds said.

“Our concerts are also usually on Fridays, so we’re hoping people will make it a night out and maybe have dinner downtown before they come and enjoy the show with us,” she said.

Tickets for the next concert are on sale for $25 for arts center members, $35 for non-members and $10 for students. However, you can save $5 on your ticket by taking an arts center survey about its upcoming performing arts series. The survey and tickets are available online at

The arts center has also implemented COVID-19 protocols for its shows and, by purchasing a ticket, ticket holders acknowledge the risk of possible exposure to COVID-19.

By attending an event, patrons also acknowledge their consent to abide by the applicable security protocols put in place by the arts center at the time of the performance.
