NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —TBerkshires Academy for Advanced Musical Studies (BAAMS) invites all Berkshire County, Southern Vermont, and Eastern New York music students ages 12-18 to its 4th Camp Daytime Berkshires Summer Jazz Band, August 15-19, 2022, at Building 6, Heritage State Park, North Adams.

Camp hours are 12:00-4:30 p.m. daily. Students will study with BAAMS faculty who are also faculty members of The Juilliard School, Berklee College of Music, “The Saturday Night Live,” and more.

“I’m thrilled to be invited to this year’s Berkshires Summer Jazz Band Day Camp,” said Ron Blake, saxophone and wind instruments teacher. “Music (and arts education in general) is such an essential part of students’ educational and social development, and it’s always a privilege to share my lifelong experience and passion for this music with them,” says Blake. , longtime member of the “Saturday Night Live” Band and faculty member of the Juilliard School.

BAAMS encourages and invites students of all playing levels and musical backgrounds to join.

You don’t need to have previous experience playing jazz. Teachers rely on many styles of music to help students learn.

“We help make connections between the principles of music and their relationships: jazz, classical, rock, funk, R&B, country, metal – you name it, we break down common basic musical elements and help students develop their own voices as improvisers and soloists as well as composers,” says founder and CEO, Richard Boulger. “We have recruited a top-notch faculty who are equally committed to helping each of our students succeed. In addition to the many benefits of the camp, we have a lot of fun!”

The camp is highlighted by a Friday night live “Gala” performance which features the students and an original musical composition composed collectively by the students.

Tuition for the camp week is affordably priced at $400 (thanks to donor support) and scholarships are provided to eligible families. No student will be denied a music education due to financial hardship. BAAMS is a not-for-profit corporation; donations are welcome to help provide affordable tuition.
