In a chat with DMNDR, McGowen talked about what it’s like to be part of a band. “I think it’s difficult; you live and work together, your job is your life, your passion is your job. But I think a group is a simpler organizational model than most organizations in society. Because that in society, you go to work, and you have a boss or you’re the boss, and there’s a hierarchical structure. While I feel like a group often falls into some sort of tribal organization, and your group members become members of your tribe,” he said. “Each person is more connected on a really, really deep level; I feel like you’re still really a stranger to someone unless you literally spend every single day together, working together and collaborating. Some deep emotional things are coming to the surface that you might not have looked at in a long time, or maybe he didn’t even know he was there. And then there are a lot of opportunities for growth, and it is necessary to be ready to do so; to look at yourself and to humble yourself and to experience intense emotions, and to express them and forgive yourself and your bandmates and relive that over and over again. You work through your differences and grow. he added.
