Kanaval Ball shares lineup: Win Butler, Michael Brun, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and more
Kanaval Ball has announced that Arcade Fire co-founder Win Butler and acclaimed Haitian Latin Grammy-winning DJ / producer Michael Brun have been added to the lineup. The free indoor festival takes place on January 9 at the Fillmore Philadelphia.
The world-renowned Preservation Hall Jazz Band and prominent Haitian bands RAM and Boukman Eksperyans will perform at the one-night celebration. The Haitian folk dance company Nadia Dieudonné & Feet of Rhythm will also take the stage.
In a press release, the intention behind the festival is described as an opportunity to “help illuminate the vital role Haiti has played in the culture of New Orleans for over 200 years, the co- Arcade Fire founders (and New Orleans residents) Win Butler and Régine Chassagne co-created a new pre-Mardi Gras tradition in this town in 2018 called Krewe du Kanaval with Ben Jaffe, also from New Orleans. Orléans who is the Creative Director of Preservation Hall and multi-instrumentalist of Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
Kanaval Ball will crown Philadelphia’s public radio stations WXPN’s year-long exploration of Haiti’s influence on Big Easy music and culture, with a recreation of New Orleans celebrations that take place before Tuesday. Fat.
