A great night to swing to the beloved jazz tunes of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Charles Mingus, Maynard Ferguson and many more will take place on Saturday August 21 at 7:30 p.m. as the Adirondack Jazz Orchestra – the famous ” Big Band of the Adirondacks ”- performs on the Harborside stage in Plattsburgh.
Founded 18 years ago by Matthew Pray, a graduate of the Crane School of Music, who continued to lead the group today, the ensemble brings together many of the Adirondack’s top jazz players to present the professional-caliber concerts that have made it one of the most sought after. – after groups of all kinds in the region.
More than 130 songs fill the Adirondack Jazz Orchestra’s repertoire, from masterpieces of the “golden age” of big band jazz to catchy salsa and mambo numbers to original compositions created by the artists. members of the ensemble.
With a classic instrumental range of big band wind instruments – five trumpets, four trombones and five saxophones – joined by the added flavor of the tuba, and with a powerful rhythm section, the group offers plenty of space for creative improvisations from their soloists with the beautiful basic sound of the ensemble to support them. Two of the band’s instrumentalists are also talented vocalists, adding an extra dimension to the band’s sound in their performances of valuable vocal works.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for parking on the Harborside Stage (2 Dock Street, behind D&H Rail Station and next to the City of Plattsburgh Marina), with the concert starting at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $ 20 per car (not per person), with all proceeds from ticket sales going to the performers.
Participants have the option of bringing lawn chairs or blankets and listening to music outside of their car or staying in their vehicle and listening to music playing on their car stereo directly from the stage. People fully vaccinated against COVID-19 do not need to wear face masks outside their vehicles. Members of the public are respectfully requested to refrain from bringing alcohol or pets (service animals are welcome) into Harborside Park.
