- James Sewell leads jazz band BHS at the annual Jazzin’ the Park concert.
With the arrival of mild spring weather, crowds gathered downtown in the square to relax and enjoy the annual Jazzin’ the Park concert by the Bainbridge High School jazz band. It was an unjudged performance, simply meant to be a performance for parents and the community. This is the fourth year the band has done this.
According to band manager James Sewell, the practice and prep time for this gig usually consists of practicing once or twice a week, for three to four months. “But this year we didn’t start until April because of the trip to San Antonio,” Sewell said. “So we met for an hour and a half at night two to three times for three weeks.”
Some of the songs performed at the concert include What a Wonderful World, Back a Town and The Answer is in the Blues, as well as classics like Just a Closer Walk and Star Spangled Banner.
“Everyone is enjoying this gig,” Sewell said. “It’s relaxed and a lot of people bring their dinner with them to eat during the concert.”
Sewell said in closing, “Thank you to all of the students for putting in the extra time to prepare for the show. Thank you parents, community and administration for all of your continued support! »
